'Dialogue' Trumps Honduran Law

The restoration of a president with dictatorial dreams in Honduras is being touted by the administration as a triumph of "dialogue." In truth, it's just old-fashioned ... More »

No Good

Obama Lies About Stimulus Jobs "Created or Saved," Media Yawns
They claimed to have "saved or created" 30,000 jobs. Now, even that pathetic number is revealed as a fraud. How many jobs could you create with $1 trillion dollars?

Don’t Hold Back …

Krauthammer: Obama attacks on Bush “disgusting”

When does a President stop blaming his predecessor and start taking responsibility for his own actions? To be fair, that has been an eternal question in the American context, but it does seem as though Barack Obama has a crutch that he refuses to put aside. Economy? Blame Bush! Media? Blame Bush! Afghanistan? Especially there, Charles Krauthammer argues, Obama has been “disgusting” in his blameshifting, especially since it has been six months since Obama rolled out his own strategy on the war (via Radio Vice Online)

Obama may have gotten himself elected by promising to be the not-Bush, and he certainly won his Nobel Peace Prize for being the not-Bush. However, if he wants to be President, he’ll need to start acting like it and quit sniveling about the fact that he won the election after Bush — which he himself chose to do.

Net Neutrality And Private Property

It’s a series of tubes!

For those unfamiliar with what net neutrality is, I’ll try to explain in a more coherent way. Internet providers like Comcast, Charter, Road Runner, etc. sell access to the internet through their networks. If you subscribe to their services, everything you access on the internet first goes through their private property. Now, theoretically, as it is their private property, and you’re choosing to pay to use it, they can make the rules on what you can access. However, historically, they haven’t. Why? Well, they know that if you can’t access what you want using their service, you can go find another.

However, there is a single point that overrides both my concerns and the concerns of net neutrality proponents: the proposed solution is to have the government dictate what private internet providers can or cannot do with their private property.

This is where the whole concept falls apart. People who don’t trust corporations instead want to place control over the internet in the hands of the government. Sound familiar?

Commerce Clause Abuse: How Congress Circumvents Both The Letter And Spirit Of The Constitution

As James Madison, the father of our Constitution, explained, "The powers delegated by the proposed Constitution to the federal government are few and defined. Those which are to remain in the State governments are numerous and indefinite."

Pay Attention, Chris

Matthews: Religious right in US most like … the Taliban

That must be from all of the times the Religious Right throws acid in women’s faces, or bars girls from attending schools, or beat barbers in the streets for trimming beards. Right? Because when the Religious Right set up their dictatorship in America, they were just like the Taliban, according to Chris Matthews.

Pay Czar Cuts CEO Salaries 90% and Obama Didn't Know About It?
Forget class envy. Yes, these firms made a deal with the devil, but where does this stop? If you take a student loan, can they tell you what to major in?

"You think it's just about the pay of those 25 rich, hated Wall Street executives? Can the pay czar set the wages and benefits of the employees now?  If not, why not?  This is a jackboot in the door.  It becomes a spiral in which your liberty is lost and the government's power is absolute."

"Every day brings more evidence that we have a willful and purposeful destruction of the private sector economy in the US -- and it's not just Obama. It is the entire Democrat Party. We have a bunch of economic illiterates running the show here, folks."

Stop Whining And Start Leading

Tapper to Gibbs: Who are you to decide what constitutes a news organization?

Sheer comedy gold from one of the most honest White House correspondents in the business.  Jake Tapper used his time in the Briefing Room to challenge Robert Gibbs on the Obama administration’s attempts to brand Fox News as something other than a news organization.  Gibbs sputters but never answers Tapper’s essential question

Click over to Tapper’s blog to hear the answer.  Ultimately, though, Gibbs thoroughly misses Tapper’s point.  The White House is not just some political 501(c)3 issuing opinion statements on policy.  They’re the executive branch of government, who exist to enforce laws and are accountable to the people, at least in part (one hopes) through the media.  It’s entirely inappropriate to make pronouncements on the credibility of those organizations holding them accountable, especially when they try to wheedle other news organizations into ignoring them.

Theories

Video: Chris Matthews vs. Texas tea partier

Light entertainment for a slow news day per a few reader requests. It ends up devolving into an argument over whether the Keynesians or Amity Shlaes are right about the Depression, but Matthews’s repeated — and futile — attempts to bait him on things like Birtherism and secession are amusing. Watch to the end or you’ll miss the money line, a vivid illustration of that new lefty study confirming that no, in fact, for most right-wing Obama opponents, it’s not about race.

Despite their vehement opposition to Obama and the Democratic agenda, Carville noted that conservatives were also unhappy with their own party primarily because they believed Republican leaders are abandoning core party principles.

“When Republicans try to be like Democrat-lite,” one conservative focus group participant said, “they’re not going to convert any Democrats to them and they’re just going to lose conservatives.”

And It “Exceeds” Their Expectations!

Jobs “saved or created” from $787 billion Porkulus: 30,083

We’ve long criticized the Obama administration measure of jobs “saved or created” by their economic policies as ridiculously ambiguous.  That seemed confirmed when the White House announced last month that a million jobs had been “saved or created” by the stimulus package, without any supporting data.  This week, the administration finally supplied the data, and the number came to less than 1/30th of their September claim
