A Solar Fairy Tale

Over at GlobalWarming.org, Paul Chesser exposes the story behind the story of a solar project in Denver.  This is just too good: Remember last month when the president and vice president . . . Go

The Democrats Did Well With Rush Limbaugh, But Now They Need A New Villain

The Next Enemy
The Left needs a good villain. With Bush and Cheney out of power, and with the Rush Limbaugh strategy exhausted, who will be next?

So is there anybody left for the Democrats to boo and hiss? Yes, there is one figure in Washington whom liberals really do hate and fear, because he could help thwart their policy goals, especially on social issues.

That person is Chief Justice John Roberts.

In many ways, Roberts is the perfect enemy for the Democrats. He’s a conservative white male who owes his appointment to the hated President Bush. One of his core principles is that the judiciary should make decisions on a purely legal basis instead of a policy basis. President Obama thinks that judges should be champions of the powerless, regardless of the law. As a senator he voted against confirming Roberts, saying that he had “used his formidable skills on behalf of the strong in opposition to the weak.” Therefore, the president would probably be happy to see Roberts’s face on issue ads and his name in fundraising letters. Even better, Roberts could not defend himself, since justices are severely constrained in their public statements.

Now, They Tell Us - Pt II: AP Really Catching On To Obama Math!

Michelle Malkin  •  March 27, 2009 05:54 PM

I’m going to have to make this a series. Earlier this week, I noted a belated report from the Associated Press delving into the fuzzy porkulus jobs numbers proffered by the Obama administration.

Well, it looks like the AP is really catching on to this bogus math thing. The wire service has a new analysis of the porkulus jobs numbers being challenged by the state of Massachusetts. The title?

“Estimate of Mass. stimulus jobs uncertain at best”

Naw! You don’t say!

When You Lose The ACLU …

Anti-lobbyist policy unconstitutional?

President Obama announced a series of restrictions for government agencies in dealing with lobbyists this week, and free-speech advocates have begun objecting.  Officials in charge of spending stimulus money cannot speak with lobbyists in person or on the phone, and in fact now have to start every conversation by asking the person whether they are a registered lobbyist.  The ACLU and CREW believe that Obama has violated the First Amendment and want the policy changed

The Coming G20 Riots & The Spread Of Mob Rule

Michelle Malkin  •  March 27, 2009 04:32 AM

My syndicated column today continues the theme I blogged about two days ago in the “Rule of the Mob” post. Keep an eye on next week’s G20 summit in London. Thousands of anti-capitalism zealots will be amassing there to intimidate and harass bankers. The vandalizing of the Scottish ex-banking executive’s home in Edinburgh is just a prelude. The protests are slated to start tomorrow and last all week; President Obama leaves for the summit on Tuesday. The images above are graphics and posters being disseminated online by protest organizers.

The anarchists are reportedly using Google Streetview and Twitter to organize riots, hang businessmen in effigy at the behest of a university professor known as “Mr. Mayhem,” call for guillotining bank execs, and — get this — target London firms that fail to turn off their lights to commemorate that moronic “Earth Hour” event I wrote about earlier this week. If shops don’t worship at the altar of environmentalism, they will be broken into

Think this madness couldn’t happen here? Think again.

Control Freaks

Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner's proposed sweeping reform of our nation's financial system puts the nation's banks, insurers and hedge funds under direct government control — where they least need to be.

Bush Was Parsimonious In Comparison

Video: Obama on blaming Bush for deficits

Heritage has some figures on deficit spending that should enlighten Obama and his team about the “structural deficit” they inherited. While the deficit jumped in the last year of the Bush administration, thanks to the spending on the bailouts, deficits had declined since 2004 until then.  Bush had structured his budgets to get back to balance in the next few years — although without considering the huge mandates in Medicare and Social Security.

Obama’s plans don’t count those mandates, either — but they blow up the deficit:

Not only does Obama quadruple the deficit this year, the long-term outlook shows them rising, not falling, under Obama’s plans.  Even the White House projections, using the rosiest possible conditions, shows them increasing after never getting down to the 2008 level.  Even in 2013, the White House predicts a budget deficit higher than Bush’s last year, and then increases in the deficit steadily through 2019.

Impolitic

Republicans to Cheney: Get lost

It’s hard to blame either side.  Dick Cheney mostly kept his own counsel while serving as George Bush’s VP, but now he’s free to talk — and to make sure that history gets his role correct. Part of that will be pushing back against Obama and his assignment of blame onto the Bush administration for the various ills he faces now as an executive as a means to redirect criticism.

George Bush said that he owed Obama his “silence”, in the tradition of American presidents with their successors.  Perhaps he also shrewdly considered the benefits of silence to his own party as well.  However, if the GOP wants to take the lead on substantive criticisms of the Obama administration, then they’re going to have to do better than buying into Bonus Outrage and Obama’s budget-busting plans for federal expansion.  Until Republicans start speaking loudly and rationally, they’re leaving a vacuum for Cheney and others to fill - and that’s not Cheney’s fault, or the media.

BHO

"Barack Obama has lived in a world of left-wing assumptions, so even if he were to govern to 'the center,' his idea of where the center is, is well to the left of where most Americans would place it. That's simply the reality of his life."

Card Check, Without Arbitration Or Card Check

Retailers offer compromise on Card Check

. . . the Washington Times reports that three national retailers have broken the front, offering a compromise on Card Check that could squeeze votes from reluctant Democrats.

This might seem like bad news for Card Check opponents, but a closer look at the compromise makes it look more like bad news for its advocates

I’d prefer that they pass nothing at all, and I hope that’s what happens.  I’m not cheering for its passage. I’m telling you that when you have 59 Democrats in the Senate and a Democratic President, you’re going to get pro-union legislation — and this is the least bad thing you’re going to see. If we can limit it to this, we’ll be lucky.
